Transient Thoughts 015 - Bruised Skies - Rain No Longer Softens

Sitting alone in a high rise gazing eastwardly awaiting the rising sun.  Below there are indistinct shapes moving around serving little more than a pleasant distraction from our anticipation.  The city slowly defines its form and wakes from its slumber as the moment approaches.

Listening to Rain No Longer Softens brings to mind a scene as described above.  The audio paints a vision of dawn while in the midst of an urban setting.  Transforming itself from this dark formless void into a warm yet tainted vision.

The opening tracks have a strong ambient focus, featuring a central tone or soundscape.  However in the background there are little oddities. Sometimes I swear I hear different songs playing deep in the depths.  It's like a car passing by, playing a few sparse notes for a moment, then nothing.

While listening to Rain No Longer Softens - especially with headphones - I will often hear small little tidbits of other music or sounds.  I turn my head to look to find nothing.  This is the musical game that Bruised Skies is playing.  Like catching a fleeting glimpse of something out of the corner of one's eye, only to find nothing upon further inspection.

As the album progresses increasingly injects a stronger sense of melody.  While the early tracks are more ambient driven, the later tracks are allowed to breathe and develop through the use of the aforementioned melody.   By the time the album concludes the full beauty of what Bruised Skies compositions are laid before us, just waiting to be taken in.

As the album begins so does the rising of the sun.  From a dark formless void of a city, the picture slowly unfolds before us.  By the time Rain No Longers Softens concludes the light has fully illuminated the cityscape before us.  It is not a perfect representation of nature, yet nothing that mankind has created can take away from the dawn's glory.
